Wound retractor systems

 border=Email this page

Wound retractor systems are designed to provide circumferential retraction while protecting the wound from contamination when a specimen requires removal through a small incision e.g. Alexis system.
Whilst they are useful and some people swear by them,  BLA do not consider these essential for laparoscopic colorectal surgery.  Wound infection is uncommon and we have not had a case of tumour recurrence within either a port or extraction site over the last 10 years.
