Gravitas Bariatric Fellowships 2009

Applications are invited from established Consultant Surgeons and Year 5/6 SpRs in possession of a National Training Number for one of up to four clinical fellowships in laparoscopic bariatric surgery, administered by Gravitas Bariatric Surgery Ltd.

Gravitas (founded by surgeons in 2007) aims to create an independent network of high quality bariatric units across the UK and Ireland. The 2009 Fellowships will be based at one of our bariatric centres ib the north of england,  Details can be found on our web site 

Each Fellowship will last for between six and 12 months to commence between 1st October 2009 and 1st April 2010.  Fellows will receive a bursary from Gravitas of £4k per month (less a charge for accommodation if required). 

Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of laparoscopic bariatric surgery (including laparoscopic malabsorptive and revisional surgery). They will gain confidence in peri-operative and out-patient management, and undergo supervised hands on operative training. Fellows should be confident to independently perform laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy by the end of the attachment. It is expected that the Fellow will take part in on-going clinical research and a 24hr emergency bariatric emergency on-call service.
